Nov 19, 2025

In this edition of our Five Minutes with… series, we hear from Josh Enever, Candidate Resourcer for the Facilities Management Division here at Preston Recruitment.

Josh plays a key role in supporting clients across the UK by identifying, engaging, and placing skilled temporary FM professionals. From engineering contractors to maintenance specialists, he ensures that organisations have fast, reliable access to the talent they need to keep operations moving seamlessly.

Here, Josh shares his perspective on market trends, candidate expectations, and what’s driving demand across the FM and Data Centre landscapes.

Market Trends & Talent Demand

How have you seen demand change over the past 12 months, and which temporary roles or skill sets are currently the hardest to fill?

Demand has definitely increased across the FM sector over the last year, especially within the data centre environment. As more organisations continue investing in critical infrastructure, the need for experienced engineers, maintenance professionals, and technical specialists has grown significantly. Temporary support has become especially vital. Clients rely on us when they need flexibility, quick turnaround, and trusted professionals during peaks in workload, reactive maintenance, shutdowns, or planned projects. Right now, the most challenging roles to fill are multi-skilled engineers, people who can work confidently across electrical and mechanical systems while holding the correct qualifications to operate in commercial or critical settings. They’re in extremely high demand.

Technology & Automation

What impact is technology having on the types of temporary candidates your clients are looking for?

Technology is reshaping Facilities Management more than ever. We’re seeing increased adoption of smart building systems, BMS platforms, and data-driven monitoring tools. Clients are now looking for temporary professionals who can blend hands-on engineering expertise with an understanding of digital systems, data interpretation, and tech-led performance tools. It’s adding a new dimension to FM roles, and candidates who can operate confidently in both the physical and digital space are becoming especially valuable.

Candidate Expectations & Retention

Have you noticed any changes in what temporary FM and Data Centre candidates expect from employers?

Definitely. Temporary professionals aren’t just looking for their next placement, they want consistency, respect, and ongoing opportunities. I’ve seen strong loyalty from temporary engineers who feel included, supported, and treated fairly across contracts. When clients communicate clearly, offer ongoing work, and make their temporary staff feel part of the wider team, it leads to better retention and better performance on-site. Building long-term relationships with candidates has become a huge part of success in the temporary market.

Regional & Global Competition

With FM projects expanding across the UK and Europe, are you seeing more competition for temporary talent?

Absolutely. With the growth in new facilities and increased FM activity both in the UK and across Europe, clients are often competing for the same pool of skilled engineers and specialists. To secure top temporary talent, the most successful clients act quickly once a need is identified, offer competitive rates, and communicate clearly throughout the process, because speed and clarity are ultimately what allow proactive employers to secure the best people.
