Entry-Level Electrical Design Engineer

Preston Recruitment are proud to be partnering with a rapidly growing electrical engineering manufacturer that specialises in custom low and medium voltage switchgear and control solutions. We’re seeking an ambitious Entry-Level Electrical Design Engineer who’s eager to learn, develop, and build a career within the power systems and switchgear sector.
This role is ideal for a recent Electrical Engineering graduate looking for genuine responsibility, hands-on design work, and exposure to the full engineering project lifecycle.
The Opportunity:
As the Entry-Level Electrical Design Engineer, you’ll play a key technical role in project design, client interaction, and solution development. You’ll work closely with senior engineers, production teams, and programmers to deliver custom-engineered LV/MV switchgear products.
This is a fantastic platform to grow your technical expertise in electrical design, UL standards, NEC code compliance, and industrial power systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce AC/DC schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams and layout drawings
- Interpret customer technical specifications, drawings, and project requirements
- Create detailed Bills of Material and support component selection with suppliers
- Ensure all designs meet NEC, NFPA, and UL standards (UL891, UL1558, UL508A)
- Support production, testing, and field service teams through each project phase
- Work with programmers on hardware integration and system design
- Contribute to continuous improvement and adoption of new technologies
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar discipline)
- Solid understanding of electrical circuits and basic power systems
- Capability to read and interpret blueprints
- Working familiarity with AutoCAD and SolidWorks
- Strong analytical skills and a proactive problem-solving mindset
- A good communicator who can work effectively with technical and non-technical teams
