Pipe Systems Design Lead – Mission Critical

Pipe Systems Design Lead – Mission Critical & Industrial Projects

  • Henderson, Colorado
  • $100,000 – $110,000 Base Salary + Full Benefits

Preston Recruitment is currently supporting a leading US mechanical contractor delivering large-scale industrial and mission critical construction projects across the country.

Due to continued growth, they are looking to hire a Pipe Systems Design Lead to join their expanding VDC/BIM team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who started their career in the field as a Pipefitter and has since progressed into detailing, BIM, VDC, or coordination.

The Opportunity:

They are looking for someone who truly understands how piping systems are installed in the field not just how they look on drawings.

You will play a key role bridging the gap between design and field execution, helping ensure projects are practical, coordinated, fabrication-ready, and buildable before work reaches site.

You’ll work closely with field operations, fabrication teams, engineering, and project leadership across complex industrial and mission critical projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead piping system BIM/VDC coordination
  • Produce and review fabrication/shop drawings
  • Identify clashes, coordination issues, and constructability concerns early in the process
  • Work closely with field and fabrication teams to improve installation efficiency
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, Engineers, and Operations teams
  • Support prefabrication and modular construction strategies
  • Ensure designs are practical, accurate, and executable in the field

What They’re Looking For:

  • Background as a Pipefitter or hands-on piping professional
  • Experience transitioning into detailing, BIM, VDC, or coordination
  • Strong Revit and Navisworks experience
  • Strong understanding of piping installation methods and constructability
  • Ability to identify problems before they become field issues
  • Comfortable communicating across field, fabrication, engineering, and project teams
  • Able to bridge the gap between design and real-world execution

Why Join?

  • Long-term pipeline of high-profile work
  • Stable, well-established contractor
  • Career progression opportunities
  • Complex industrial & mission critical projects
  • Forward-thinking company investing heavily in technology and prefabrication
  • Strong company culture and employee retention
